The art of weaving is a prized skill and a hidden treasure in Bhutan. The intricate designs and the colorful patterns is a showpiece in the international market. Many women in the central and east of Bhutan weave at home. They are simple village women who use their spare time to weave clothes for their family and sell what is left over. The weaving has a special social significance in the Bhutanese society. Festival is one occasion where the best of the Bhutanese textiles, (Kira women’s dress and Gho men’s dress) are being worn and the other occasion like the promotions and marriages. Bhutanese fabrics are also woven to be offered as gifts. The art weaving has come from many generations as a respectable profession for the Bhutanese ladies and to make out a living. Young girls begin learning the art of weaving from their mothers at an early age and attain proficiency before they reach the age of twenty.  Considering the social and religious values associated with weaving in Bhutan, Bhutanese textiles have received wide recognition for its unique quality across the world. This rich textile is also the vivid symbol of the dragon Kingdom of Bhutan.
