Fishing in Bhutan is an adventure sport only. There is NO commercial trout fishing in Bhutan. Although Bhutan may be one of the least developed trout fisheries in the world, but definitely it is one of the adventure sport not to be missed when you have the opportunity to visit this fascinating country.
Fishing spots range from large rivers to crystal clear spring-fed streams. Altitudes range from 1200 meters to 3000 meters. The most common varieties are the snow trout (belonging to the carp family) and the brown trout (which has thrived since its introduction some decades ago). All the fishing in Bhutan is Catch and Release. Bhutan Eco tours & Adventure will process all the necessary permits. The best season recommended from March-May/September. (October, November and December is the Brown trout breeding season and fishing is not permitted.) Fly fishing is somewhat challenging in Bhutan as our rivers are generally narrow and lots of forests limiting the fly casting.
