Bhutan offers a unique destination for avid kayakers & rafting who are comfortable in class three and class four rivers, with incredible rivers that are both challenging and some of the most beautiful in the world.

The Pho Chhu (located in Punakha Valley) is the most popular river for water sports; it is easily accessible by road and has a couple of class III rapids. This river is little technical and a few rapids on the river have names, the Wrathful Buddha and Strainers Paradise. The river is aqua blue and is much clearer compared to the Mo Chhu, which is the river, located in the adjacent valley.

If you are looking for a peaceful morning in the Punakha Valley our scenic float past the Punakha Dzong is recommended. This section of the Mo Chhu River is graded as class II and I; the total distance of this section of the river is 6 km. The Mo Chhu is the female river of the Punakha Valley. The starting point is at the base of the Khamsum Yulley monastery, a picturesque spot with a suspension bridge joining the opposite village with terraced rice fields with the road head.

Safety is the first priority, we instruct with safety talks, experienced guides, wetsuit, Life jacket, splash jacket & helmet

River Classification:

Pho Chhu River

Rafting for Minimum group size of 5.
Difficulty:  Intermediate, Class III
Minimum age 10
This wonderful class III is good introduction to whitewater with some fun intermediate rapids and spectacular scenery.  Start your trip with a leisurely two-hour hike up to the Put in at Samdenkha. Advisable to carry a light picnic lunch. This trip can be run year round except for maybe in the peak monsoon months (July end to Mid September)

Mo Chhu River  "The Temple Stretch"

Raft Minimum group size of 5.
Difficulty:  Easy, Class II
Minimum age - 7
This good stretch is for those who are apprehensive about going on a whitewater trip.  Start your day by taking an hour or so hiking up to the temple at Nyezengong and then floating down the scenic Mo Chhu past the Punakha Dzong and to the take out at the high school.  It is recommended to finish by mid afternoon, as an upstream wind is common most afternoons. This trip can be run year round with the trips being about half an hour to forty-five minutes shorter during the monsoon months.

The Upper Mo Chhu River

Raft for minimum group size of 5.
Difficulty:  Advanced, Class IV
Minimum age: 15
This is one of the most extreme sections of water rafted in Bhutan - This run takes you through some really interesting class IV rapids and a beautiful gorge. This trip can be run only in the months of April to May (depending on the volume of the river which in turn depends on the amount of snow melt No snow in the winter means less chances of rafting this section and Mid October to Early December We see lots of bird life and it is not uncommon to see a family of otters
