THE RICH TEXTILES OF BHUTAN

The art of weaving is a prized skill and a hidden treasure in Bhutan. The intricate designs and the colorful patterns is a showpiece in the international market. Many women in the central and east of Bhutan weave at home. They are simple village women who use their spare time to weave clothes for their family and sell what is left over. The weaving has a special social significance in the Bhutanese society. Festival is one occasion where the best of the Bhutanese textiles, (Kira women’s dress and Gho men’s dress) are being worn and the other occasion like the promotions and marriages. Bhutanese fabrics are also woven to be offered as gift. Since time immemorial, Bhutanese women have adopted weaving as a respectable profession for eking out a living. Young girls begin learning the art of weaving from their mothers at an early age and attain proficiency before they reach the age of twenty.

Considering the social and religious values associated with weaving in Bhutan, Bhutanese textiles have received wide accolade and recognition for its unique quality across the world. This rich textile is also the vivid symbols of the dragon Kingdom of Bhutan.

Day 01 Arrival
Day 02 Paro-Thimphu
AM sightseeing in paro. After lunch dive to Thimphu, the Capital if Bhutan.
Day 03 Thimphu
AM sightseeing in Thimphu. After lunch drive to Punakha.
Day 04 Punakha- Bumthang.
Early breakfast and drive to Bumthang, the famous Yathra weaving region
Day 05 Bumthang- Mongerl.
A Days halt in Bumthang will discover the famous Yathra weaving in this region. Yathra is a hand woven wool with muilti colour patterns. It is used for may purposes, Jackets, Sweaters, waist coat, bags and bed cover. Afternoon sightseeing of the local valley.
Day 06 Bumthang- Mongar
Day 07 Mongar- Tashi Gang
Day 08 Tashigang-Radhi Radhi
Radhi village is considered one of the famous places in Bhutan for the hand woven fabrics.
Day 09 Radhi-Tahsigang
PM drive back to Tashi gang, and sightseeing.
Day 10 TashiGang-Halt
A Day excursion to Khaling village will bring you to the weaving centre to study the entire processing of the spinning, dyeing and weaving.
Day 11 Tashigang to Bumthang
Drive back to Bumthang.
Day 12 Bumthang – Punakha
Drive back to Punakha.
Day 13 Punakha- Thimphu/ Paro
Day 14 Paro- Departure
